blackfolksmakingcomics:

Don’t sleep on Genius. Issue #2 came out this week. Been loving it and enjoying it ever since I saw the pilot season issue. It’s cathartic to read, so thank you Marc, Adam, and Afua for this book.

It might resonate with a lot of you guys out there in light of recent events in the real world.

Don’t have much to add. I’m sickened by what’s going on in Ferguson. It hurts my heart. I put my trust in God and clinging on to the thought that it’ll get better.

But I’m telling you right now. It’s a struggle to keep believing that.

Just have to hang on, stay strong. And keep the faith.

joehhh said: What is Hack/Slash about?

towritecomicsonherarms:

Let me explain you a thing

This is Cassie Hack

image

These are bullies

image

This is her mother

image

This what her mother does to bullies

image

This is what her mother does instead of going to jail

image

She then went into foster care and went to a new school. But then her mother came back as a slasher (super evil psycho killers.. sometimes they are .. not natural) and killed some kids.

image

So Cassie shot her dead and buried her body. This was the start of Cassie’s career as a killer of killers.

She hears about some strange killings in Chicago and goes off to find this killer known as The Meatman

And what she finds is a giant deformed human wearing a gas mask.

image

She attacks him but it turns out he wasn’t the killer. They team up and take down the real killer and so begins the greatest friendship in ALL of comicdom.

Like really. Nobody else comes close. The love these two have for each other is amazing.

They travel the country together hunting out slashers. Along the way they pick up new friends and make powerful enemies.

There’s crossovers with horror icons like Chucky and Re-animator and recently there was a crossover with Army of Darkness.

You should read it because it’s one of my favourite comics starring two of my fave characters. If you like horror it’s a definite must read.

Hack/Slash - Cassie Hack. Fave female character ever? probably. What it’s about Current ongoing series.

Nextwave - 3 of the main protagonists are badass females. What it’s about

Y: The last man - The main character might be a male (and his monkey) but 99.99% of the other characters are female because all the males died. Agent 355 is badass as fuck.

Rat Queens - You want one cool female lead? How about 4? This modern spin on an old school genre is a violent monster-killing epic that is like Buffy meets Tank Girl in a Lord of the Rings world on crack! This is an ongoing series.

Saga - Alana is one of the main protagonists in this sci-fi space opera epic. She kicks butt. And so does her mother in law and teenage ghost babysitter. Current ongoing series.

Sex Criminals - When suzie has sex time stops. Butt stuff. Current ongoing series.

American Vampire - Pearl jones is a struggling actress in 1920’s america but then she gets a bad case of vampirism and becomes an AMERICAN VAMPIRE. Current ongoing series.

Global Frequency - Miranda Jones runs a network of 1001 people who can be called upon at any time to save the world. And Aleph her tech person is awesome as well.

Anna Mercury - Anna travels between parallel worlds and kicks arse.

There’s also current Marvel titles Ms. Marvel, Elektra and She-Hulk which are really good. Storm is getting a series soon as well. Should be awesome.

Feel free to add your own.

If you aren’t reading Sex Criminals, then I have two questions: …why do you hate fun and when did you decide to not love yourself?

Women are CONSTANTLY being treated as nothing but props and eye candy in music videos. Did you guys forget Burred Lines? Or Talk Dirty to me?

If you can’t handle a guy getting the same treatment, then fucking leave.

She’s literally Jesus with mascara and I love it.

He’s a white drag queen and his persona is a WOC/Columbian woman. Stop supporting this trashrag. He’s literally brown-facing.

I disagree and find this comment disappointing. Conchita (perhaps better known as Thomas) is an important member in the fight to end the erasure of gender non-conformity. He does not think of himself as a woman or try to get others to think he’s a woman. He’s just a man with an alternative look and to say that he’s a drag queen, I think, is an erasure of who he is. There’s nothing inherently female about makeup or dresses or long hair so I find it very hard to view this comment as anything but a homophobic remark against an otherwise non gender-conforming man. He stands for an important cause and it’s a shame that his message falls by the wayside in favor of non-issues.

To address the comment insinuating racism: you’re wrong. Given that you, the commenter, are white yourself, you really have no say in this issue or have any idea about racism against Hispanics in general. The only thing “racial” about Conchita is the name “Conchita” itself but adopting a name of a different origin than yourself is not racism, especially when it originated from white Spaniards. To claim that speaking Spanish or referencing things of Hispanic origin is racist is, in itself, racist. While I can agree that many Colombian women and Hispanic women in general (my mother included) wear their hair like Conchita does, that is — again — not racism or brown face and such an allegation is inflammatory and racist in its own respect.

I thought he identified as a woman or that Conchita was his drag queen persona? People use female pronouns for him?

Conchita is a name for a Hispanic woman, he is a white gay male.

Wikipedia:

"Thomas ”TomNeuwirth (born 6 November 1988), better known by his drag stage persona Conchita Wurst, is an Austrian singerBorn in Gmunden, Neuwirth studied fashion before embarking on a singing career through the 2007 casting show Starmania. In 2011, Neuwirth began appearing as Wurst — a drag persona noted for her beard. Neuwirth describes himself as a gay man and uses female pronouns to describe his Wurst character, but male pronouns when referring to himself.

Generally drag queens are males who dress and act in a female gender role, often exaggerating certain characteristics (such as make-up and eyelashes) for comic, dramatic, or satirical effect.

Uh what version of the internet are you on exactly? These drag “personas” or “characters” are nothing more than caricatures of women. They are making fun of women, not celebrating them. They think women are jokes, mere costumes you can take on and off when it pleases you. Something to do for “fun”. I’ve known many Conchitas in my life, and this man is making a mockery of them. Using us for shock value to obtain fame is insulting. It is brown face. Brown and blackface is for POC what drag is for women. He doesn’t know what being a woman is. He doesn’t know what being a real WOC is. He shouldn’t get to play dress up as an oppressed group of people while still retaining his white male privilege. Stop defending this sexist, racist bullshit under the guise of being “counter cultural”. You don’t need to make a mockery of women and use cultural appropriation in order to be counter cultural. If he is truly a “gender non-conforming” man, he wouldn’t need to use female pronouns. If a white or Hispanic or black man dressed up like a geisha that is fucking yellowface, and sexist. People would be insulted. But Tumblr doesn’t care so long as this tool spews some bullshit about self-acceptance. How ironic, how a white man pretending to be a Hispanic woman for money is giving advice on how to accept yourself?

^^^ Also didn’t he choose the name ‘Conchita’ because it can be translated to mean pussy? So his drag persona name literally translates to ‘Pussy Sausage,’ thereby making a very lame pun about the fact he is a man in ladyface, and of course confirming the fact (as if it wasn’t already obvious) that he is a completely disgusting, misogynist arsehole.

Yeah. Concha is slang for a vagina.

It’s actually more analogous to “cunt” than to “pussy”, though, at least in the DR. The first time I said concha, because I’d heard my older friends say it, my niñera washed my mouth out with jabón de cuava, and I got the dressing-down of my life.

So this white dude is basically the drag version of Lana del Rey. He might as well have called himself Chola McChaCha. It’d be about the same, and 100% less offensive to Spanish-speakers.
